JERRY SAGE SAMMONS

 

SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Jerry Sage Sammons, 73, of Savannah, Georgia, died Wednesday afternoon, December 30, 2009, at his home.

Born in Savannah, Georgia, he was a son of the late D. Gary Sammons and the late Lessie Buchan Sammons. Jerry was a member of Independent Presbyterian Church and was a United States Army veteran having served as a paratrooper with the Airborne Rangers. He retired as a conductor for the Seaboard Coastline. Jerry also authored several books. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Gregory Clifton Sammons and his brother, Ted Sammons.

Surviving are his son, David A. Sammons of Savannah, Georgia; three grandchildren, Robert Allen Sammons, Summer Noel Sammons and Amber Lilly Sammons; one great-granddaughter, Emsley Sammons, and his step-father, Sam Smith of Savannah, Georgia.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock Monday at Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Avenue.

The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the graveside, Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park - East, conducted by The Reverend Dr. Terry L. Johnson.

I worked with Jerry at the Railroad when I first started. He was a very fine conductor, and always had a kind word for me. I enjoyed working with him and he taught me alot. My sympathies to his family.
