Arlene and I are saddened to hear of the passing of our good friend Jim Humphries. Jim and John met first as business associates in 1984 when I was just starting out as a purchasing agent with Smith Kline & French. Jim was in sales at Kramer Chemicals. Over the years, Jim and I became good friends and golf buddies. Jim was a man of great integrity. He was always honest. You always knew that whatever Jim told you was the truth as he knew it. There are so many nice things and funny stories that I could tell about Jim that it would take a book. Here is just one. Jim often smoked a pipe when he played golf. He couldn't swing the club with the pipe in his mouth. So he would put it down in the grass to swing, then using the tell tale wisp of smoke from the pipe he would find it, pick it up and go on. One day on the tenth hole of Springford Country Club, where he had been one of the original members, Jim put down, what I found out later was his favorite pipe, in some particularly deep rough. He hit the ball, then turn to look for the smoke from his pipe, but it had gone out. We searched for about twenty minutes and had to wave through two other sets of golfers before we found that pipe. From then on I always keep an eye on the spot where Jim put down his pipe.

Here is just one quote from Jim: "I never took a golf lesson in my life and I have the game to prove it."
