ISADORE M. KARPF

 

SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Isadore M. Karpf, 91, died peacefully at home on Friday after a long illness.

He lived his early years in New York City, but spent his entire adult life in Savannah. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the greatest generation. He was retired from his business, Punch and Judy, which served the needs of Savannah’s children since 1946. He was past president of the Jewish Educational Alliance, chairman of the United Jewish Appeal campaign and a former board member of the Savannah Jewish Federation. He was also a member of the Savannah District Authority, now known as the Port Authority, and was president of the Greater Downtown Business Association, as well as a founding member of the Coastal Jazz Association. He was a lifelong member of the JEA and Congregation B’nai Brith Jacob synagogue.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Edith Shoob Karpf; his three children, Sally Karpf Krissman, Michael L. Karpf and Eric S. Karpf and his wife, Linda; his three grandchildren, Laurie Krissman Noha (Wayne), Amy Krissman Pine (Jonah) and Benjamin Wagger Karpf (Suzy); his two great-grandchildren, Sarah and Caleb Pine; his sister, Florence Karpf Alterbaum; numerous nieces and nephews, and his wonderful and loving friend of 60 years, Evelyn Campbell.

The family is grateful for the loving care he received from Jennifer Osborne, Linda Cooper and Freddie Osborne.

The funeral service will be held at 12:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, May 16, at Bonaventure Cemetery conducted by Rabbi Avigdor Slatus.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the JEA, B.B. Jacob synagogue or Hospice Savannah.
