Dear Verity Family,
I am shocked! Peter and I collaborated in research in the Arctic and with Phaeocystis and have/had many friends and colleagues in common and, as such, many stories were traded, from snakes to cruises to loss of parents to reviewing each other's papers and proposals. What a loss! So, so sad. My thoughts are with you.

Melanie, I was shocked and deeply saddened to learn of Peter's passing. I knew Peter as a man of great talent, energy, and enthusiasm. With those, and other, attributes he became a pivotal member of the Wilderness Southeast Board, and we will miss him there terribly. His research and knowledge about the world we live in enriched the larger community as well. As I miss and mourn Peter's passing, I want to send you sympathy and strength for this trying period of your life.

Hi,
Peter was a great teacher, mentor, and friend. He was always willing to help anyone who needed it. He truly was the embodiment of education, a forever learner, striving to always find the answers to the questions that life offered us which always lead to more questions. His thirst and passion for life and science was an inspiration to me! The world of education and science just got a little dimmer without him in it! He will be greatly missed. You are in my prayers!
