DOROTHY MEYER ADLER

SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Dorothy Meyer Adler “Aunt Dorothy” as she was known by many, 95, of Savannah, Georgia, widow of  Carl Adler, her husband of 34 years, passed away Sunday morning,  July 31, 2011 after a short illness.

Born in Chicago, Illinois she moved to Savannah, Georgia in July 1943. She worked the polls for Chatham County Elections well into her 90’s. Dorothy logged over 7000 volunteer hours as a Pink Lady at Memorial Hospital and was a member of the B.B. Jacob Synagogue and Sisterhood, as well as the Jewish Educational Alliance. She was a life member of Hadassah, the Hebrew woman’s aid group, an active member of two different Mah Jong groups, and a lifelong member of the Dorothy Tecotzky Cousins Club in Chicago, Illinois. Dorothy’s dedication to her family and friends was unparalleled, she was the centerpiece of all family gatherings and hosted most holiday meals and celebrations.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Arnold Adler and his wife, Peggy, of Marietta, Georgia; three grandchildren, Carly Adler Davis, Anna Adler and Stephen Hollis Adler; three great granddaughters, Mary Elizabeth Davis, Margaret MacCallum Davis and Madelyn Grace Davis; one sister in law Melaine Meyer of Chicago, Illinois; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grand nephews and cousins. She was also blessed with a special niece, Brenda Bloom Kenworthy and a special nephew, Glenn Golob.

The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon, at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by Rabbi Avigdor Slatus.

The family will accept friends and relatives at the Clubhouse of The Woods Apartments, 7364 Hodgson Memorial Drive following the service. The family will sit Shiva at Apt. B106 at The Woods Apartments.

Arnie, Peggy and children, My heart and prayers go out to you. Dot was a wonderful lady, a blessing to all who knew her. Bill and Leeanna well remember her chakies, a tradition I copied for my grandchildren. She always gave to her family, her synagogue, and her community. A person who walked in faith for her Lord. She will be greatly missed.
