SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Charles A. King of Savannah, age 62, died January 3, 2009 after a brief illness. A graduate of Savannah High School, he became a member of the US Air Force from 1968 - 1972.  Upon leaving the Air Force, he was employed as a sales representative for several major food companies, including Keebler, General Foods, and Quaker.  His most recent employment was with J.C. Lewis Ford.

He was an avid sports fan, often serving through the years in coaching and officiating for baseball and basketball games and tournaments for junior league, high school and college level teams.  But his most passionate love for sport was expressed in his role as fan and supporter for the UGA Bulldogs football team. GO DAWGS!

He is predeceased by his father, Edwin King, and mother Henrietta King Marcum.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Carter King; one daughter, Stacey Waldrip of Marietta; one son, Chad King of Valdosta, and one grandson, Colin Waldrip of Marietta.  He is also step-father to John Carter of Cumming and Jeff Carter of Alpharetta, and step-grandfather to Mason and Alexis Carter of Cumming.

He is also survived by his two brothers, Edward King of Pooler, and Jack King of Pooler; his two sisters, Lillian King of Sargent Beach TX, and Judy Shearouse of Palm Coast FL., as well as his four nieces, three nephews, their spouses and children, and many friends and loved ones.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock Wednesday at Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Avenue.

The funeral service will be held at 1 o’clock Thursday afternoon at Faith Primitive Baptist Church (Bee Road) conducted by Pastor W. Dean Robbins, Jr. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

We are your neighbors down the street. Even though I only saw you a couple of times, Charles always spoke fondly of you and the grandchildren. We bought our last 4 cars from Charles. He would always do "special delivery" for car problems as a neighbor. We had many conversations about grandchildren, UGA Bulldogs and life in general. He was a very nice man that many people will miss. Our sympathy to you, Linda, and your family. Please feel free to call me if there is anything I can help you with. 598-0919 LaVerne Booton
