CARNEGIA SHEFFIELD HAYSMAN

SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Carnegia Sheffield Haysman, 87, of Savannah, Georgia, widow of Moses Haysman, died Thursday morning, July 14, 2011 at Hospice Savannah.

Born in Brooklet, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late John Lane Sheffield and Sallie Spires Sheffield. She was married to her childhood sweetheart for 54 years as the beloved wife of the late Moses Haysman of Savannah. Mrs. Haysman was a faithful member of the Congregation Agudath Achim, worked for over twenty years at the Bon Air Restaurant and later retired from Belk’s at the Oglethorpe Mall in 1973 because of health problems. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved sister, Corine, and six brothers, Emory Lee, Brooks, Wade, Collis, J.L. and Edward Sheffield.

Whether you called her Mom, Carnegia, “Me-Maw”, or “Grandma”, you knew you were in the presence of someone special. Carnegia lived life to the fullest and was blessed to have some of the people that loved and cared about her most be able to visit following her short illness. Her passing was a testament to her life, in that she had an inner spark and a way of making her family, friends and even strangers feel special, accepted and loved. In the last days of her life, her love manifested itself between family and friends bringing us all closer as we celebrated her life and what she has meant to each one of us.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Sandra Gebhardt, and her partner, Jennifer Tyson; her adoring son, Arthur, and his wife Nancy; four devoted grandchildren, Jeff Gebhardt, and his wife, Lauren, Jessica Scott, and her husband, Terry, Keeley Haysman and Scott Haysman; five great-grandchildren and a plethora of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Friday morning at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by Rabbi Kenneth R. Leitner.

Mrs. Hayman was such a funny, wonderful woman. We just loved her. She & I were at the beauty shop at the same time each week and sat next to each other. We had some wonderful conversations. Her family meant everything to her. I am very thankful that she was independent to the very end. God bless all of you.
