I really enjoyed working with Bernard while he was employed with Piedmont National as the credit manager. I fondly remember cases where I would bring to his desk a credit request for a potential client that did not have many trade references. He would ask me "how green is the company's front lawn?" His reasoning was if the company was profitable enough to invest in landscaping then they were probably doing OK financially.
Bernard always had a few minutes to share a story or two.
