FATHER BENJAMIN SANFORD ULMER

SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - The Reverend Benjamin Sanford Ulmer grew up in Savannah Georgia.  He was a graduate of Savannah High School.  He graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in Industrial Engineering.  He served in the U. S. Army and was a First Lt. in Korea.  Father Ulmer worked with the Celanese Corporation of America and then entered into the position of the Executive Director of the Savannah Port Authority.  In 1988 Sanford was called to the priesthood and also became the Administrator of the Episcopal Diocese of Georgia. Father Ulmer served as an assisting Priest at Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Savannah.

He was married to Carolyn Gross and they were blessed with three children and eleven grandchildren: Dr. Sandy Ulmer and his wife, Laurie Remler Ulmer, have five children, Kelsey, Matthew, Michael, Stephen and Kristen; Mrs. Camille Ulmer Brown and her husband, Stephen Richard Brown, have two sons, Benjamin and Andrew, and Dr. David Ulmer and his wife, Tori, have four children, Miranda, Jack, Crawford and Lydia.  Father Ulmer is also survived by his brother, Julian Ulmer.

A Holy Eucharist will be held at 3 o’clock Thursday afternoon, November 3rd, at Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church. Interment will be private.

Very sorry to hear of Sanford's death. I enjoyed working with him at the Savannah Port Authority. David worked with our law firm prior to his going to medical school. Am sure he is an excellent M.D. My condolences to Carolyn and all of the children. Sanford was a good man and a good friend.

My condolences to the entire family. I will always carry fond memories of Father Ulmer. More so from scouting than any other facet of life. He was a leader of many and cherished by us all. We will all miss him dearly.

Our entire family is so sad to hear of the passing of Sandford. He was my father's first cousin. Dad,Gordon Ulmer Dixon,and Sandford are again together in the glory of God. Sandford was such a large part of the family and a much treasured man. We send his immediate family our condolences and wishes for peace. Love, Terri
